Next week will be bittersweet. On Monday, my new short film, Veredas Tropicais (Tropical Lanes) will premiere at Mostra de Tiradentes, Brazil, one of my very favorite film festivals. The short opens Mostra Panorama, and it plays alongside films by Duo Strangloscope, Leandro Olímpio, Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca.
I wrote a lot about Tiradentes last year, when I was finally able to return to the festival for the first time since moving to New York, in 2014. But the bold selection of films combined with the extraordinary atmosphere of the town–the architecture, the food, the people, and every single aspect of the film festival–makes this a tough one to miss. Fortunately, there will be fun things happening in New York too, but more on that later.
Veredas Tropicais is about the becoming-censor of film culture. The film has a single screening on Monday, January 22, at 4pm, but it will also be streaming online on the festival website for the rest of the week. I’ll make sure to post a link if it’s not geoblocked.

Veredas Tropicais @Mostra de Tiradentes
A semana que vem começará com o coração fora do lugar. Na segunda-feira, meu novo curta-metragem, Veredas Tropicais, estreia na Mostra de Tiradentes–um dos meus festivais favoritos. O curta abre a Mostra Panorama, e passa junto de novos filmes por Duo Strangloscope, Leandro Olímpio, Bárbara Wagner e Benjamin de Burca.
Eu escrevi bastante sobre a Mostra no ano passado, quando pude enfim retornar a ela pela primeira vez desde 2014. Mas a seleção sempre corajosa de filmes, em conjunção à atmosfera da cidade–a arquitetura, a comida, as pessoas, e toda a programação do festival–, tornam essa ausência mais dura. Felizmente, a semana também guarda boas novas para Nova York, mas sobre isso falo mais adiante.
Veredas Tropicais é sobre o devir-censor da cultura cinematográfica. O filme tem uma exibição presencial, dia 22, às 16h, mas também ficará disponível para streaming no site da Mostra pelo resto da semana.
